Kanpur Woman Accuses In-Laws of Stripping Her for Sorcery Rituals, Files Police Complaint
A shocking case has emerged from Kanpur, where a woman has filed a formal complaint at the Mahila police station, alleging that her in-laws subjected her to degrading sorcery practices, including stripping her as part of what they termed 'rituals'. The woman also reported being physically assaulted when she attempted to resist these acts, leading to a police investigation and the registration of an FIR against multiple family members.
Allegations of Forced Participation in Midnight Rituals
According to the detailed complaint, the woman stated that soon after her marriage, her mother-in-law informed her that the family actively engages in sorcery and conducts secretive midnight rituals. She was told that participation in these rituals was mandatory for all family members. The mother-in-law allegedly explained that during one specific ritual, every individual, including men, is required to remove their clothing completely.
When the woman expressed her opposition to this practice, her husband reportedly forced her to take part and physically removed her clothes against her will. She further claimed that after this incident, she was sent to a locked room where her father-in-law was present, heightening her sense of vulnerability and fear.
Physical Assault and Attempts to Suppress the Matter
The complainant detailed that she faced physical assault on multiple occasions whenever she resisted the family's demands related to these sorcery practices. After enduring this ordeal, she managed to inform her mother about the situation. Her brother subsequently intervened and brought her back to her parental home for safety.
In the following months, the woman alleged that her in-laws made concerted efforts to suppress the matter and reach a compromise, especially after her father approached the police. Despite these attempts, she persisted in seeking justice, leading to the formal registration of the case.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Based on her written complaint, the police have registered an FIR against her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband, and brother-in-law. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Singh confirmed that the case is currently under active investigation. He emphasized that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry, ensuring that all aspects of the allegations are thoroughly examined.
This incident highlights serious concerns about the exploitation and abuse of women under the guise of traditional or superstitious practices, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of laws against such acts in Kanpur and beyond.
