Police in Kanpur have arrested a coaching centre operator after a 15-year-old class 10 student accused him of rape and issuing death threats to her family. The shocking case from the Kidwainagar area has sent ripples through the local community.
Complaint Filed After Student Reveals Abuse
The incident came to light on Thursday when the teenager refused to attend her coaching classes. Upon her mother's questioning, the girl revealed the alleged horrific abuse she had endured. The distraught family, residing in Babupurwa, immediately approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
The accused has been identified as Devendra Patel, who not only ran the private coaching institute in Kidwainagar but was also a teacher at the same school where the victim studied. This dual role allegedly gave him access to and authority over the minor.
Details of the Alleged Assault and Intimidation
According to the father's complaint, the abuse began in December 2025. The student narrated to her mother that Patel forcibly raped her at the coaching centre. When she tried to resist, he allegedly resorted to brutal intimidation.
The accused threatened to kill her parents and her younger brother, and warned that he would ruin her life if she did not submit to his demands. The father stated that the accused continued to force physical relations with the girl for approximately a month, leveraging fear and threats.
Family's Protest and Police Action
After learning of the allegations, the family confronted the accused at his coaching centre. However, Patel reportedly made false counter-allegations against the girl and spoke about framing her. This forced the family to take the legal route.
Dharmendra Kumar, the in-charge of Kidwainagar police station, confirmed the arrest. A case has been registered under sections for rape by intimidation and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The minor has been sent for a medical examination as part of the standard procedure in such cases.
The police official added that the accused coaching operator would be presented before a court and sent to jail on Friday. The investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence in the case.
