Kanpur: 2.5 Lakh Cases in Lok Adalat on May 9

The XIV National Lok Adalat is set to be held at the Kanpur Nagar court premises on Saturday, May 9, with an ambitious target of settling and disposing of approximately 2.50 lakh legal cases. Nodal officer for the National Lok Adalat and additional sessions judge, Rashmi Singh, announced this during a press briefing on Friday.

Increased Target from Previous Edition

Judge Singh highlighted that during the XIII National Lok Adalat, around 2 lakh cases were resolved. This year, the target has been increased to 2.50 lakh, reflecting the growing effectiveness of this alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

Benefits of Lok Adalat

She emphasized that the National Lok Adalat provides a highly effective platform for the public to achieve final disposal of disputes through conciliation and mutual settlement. A key advantage is that no appeal lies against cases resolved in the Lok Adalat, ensuring permanent resolution of disputes. Additionally, in civil matters, the court fee is refunded to the parties.

Motor Accident Claims to Be Addressed

Presiding officer of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Sanjay Verma, informed that around 300 motor accident claim cases have been identified for settlement during the Lok Adalat. This will provide speedy compensation to victims and reduce the burden on regular courts.

Scope of Cases

Additional sessions judge, Nisha Srivastava, explained that almost all compoundable cases can be resolved through Lok Adalat proceedings. She added that civil disputes are also taken up for settlement, offering a comprehensive solution for litigants.

Matrimonial Disputes and Family Reunification

Additional sessions judge, Deepali Singh, noted that matrimonial disputes are being resolved through Lok Adalats with efforts to reunite families. In many cases, the courts have succeeded in bringing couples together, demonstrating the human-centric approach of this forum.

The National Lok Adalat continues to serve as a cornerstone for accessible justice, promoting amicable settlements and reducing case backlog in the judiciary.
