In a tragic incident in Kannauj district, Dr Shashank Srivastava (50), the in-charge medical officer stationed at the community health centre (CHC) in Gursahaiganj town, was discovered dead on the floor of his residence within the CHC premises on Sunday evening, according to police reports.
Police Response and Initial Investigation
Upon receiving the alert, Kotwali police swiftly arrived at the scene and transported the body for a comprehensive postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
Background of Family Disputes Emerges
Insights from employees at the health centre reveal that Dr Srivastava had been embroiled in ongoing disputes with his wife for several years, adding a layer of complexity to the case. The doctor had reportedly returned to his residence around midnight on Saturday, with no further activity noted until the following morning.
Discovery of the Body and Immediate Actions
When cleaning staff attempted to access the residence on Sunday morning, they found the door unresponsive. Concerned health workers then peered through a window and were shocked to see Dr Shashank's lifeless body inside. This prompted immediate notification to the authorities.
Town outpost in-charge Deepak Chaudhary promptly reached the location to oversee the initial response. The staff also informed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Swadesh Gupta, about the distressing incident, ensuring all necessary protocols were followed.

Dr Shashank Srivastava, originally from Dehradun in Uttarakhand, leaves behind a son and a daughter. His parents currently reside in Lucknow, adding to the family's grief. SHO Ajay Awasthi confirmed that the family has been informed of the tragedy, with support being extended during this difficult time.

SHO Ajay Awasthi emphasized, "The family has been duly informed. The precise cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem report is available.
