Two suspected members of the infamous Kaccha Baniyan gang were arrested following an encounter with the Delhi Police in the national capital. The incident took place late Tuesday night when police intercepted the suspects in the Dwarka area.
Encounter Details
According to a senior police officer, a patrol team spotted the two men acting suspiciously near a residential colony. When the police asked them to stop, the suspects opened fire, prompting the officers to retaliate. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects sustained a bullet injury to his leg. Both were taken into custody and provided medical attention.
Recovery of Weapons
The police recovered two country-made pistols and several live cartridges from the possession of the arrested individuals. They were identified as Ravi and Sonu, residents of outer Delhi. Preliminary investigation suggests their involvement in multiple chain-snatching incidents reported in the area over the past few months.
Modus Operandi
The Kaccha Baniyan gang has been active in Delhi-NCR for years, known for targeting women and snatching gold chains, earrings, and other valuables. The gang members typically operate in pairs on motorcycles, often wearing a distinctive undershirt (kaccha baniyan) to blend in. They strike in crowded markets or near public transport hubs, making quick getaways.
Police Action
Delhi Police have intensified patrolling and surveillance in areas prone to such crimes. The arrest is seen as a major breakthrough in curbing street crime. The suspects are being interrogated to gather information about other gang members and their network. Further investigations are underway.
