Justice Bal Krishna Narayan Emphasizes Judge's Duty to Serve Litigants at CUSB Event
In a significant address at the inauguration of the NHRC–CUSB Moot Court Competition 2026, Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission chairman and Allahabad High Court Justice Bal Krishna Narayan underscored the fundamental responsibility of judges. Speaking as the chief guest at the event organized by the School of Law and Governance at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) in Patna on Thursday, Justice Narayan stated that the primary duty of a judge is to serve litigants and protect their genuine and lawful interests.
Moot Court Competitions Foster Legal Skills and Advocacy
Justice Narayan elaborated on the value of moot court competitions, noting that they not only impart essential legal knowledge but also cultivate critical advocacy skills and the ability to present arguments effectively among law students. He emphasized the importance of composure and humility in court proceedings, asserting that humility is as crucial as intellectual prowess for legal professionals. "These competitions prepare students for real-world legal challenges by honing their practical abilities," he remarked.
CUSB Vice-Chancellor Highlights Human Rights Awareness
In his presidential address, CUSB Vice-Chancellor K N Singh observed that such moot court competitions play a vital role in reinforcing awareness of contemporary human rights issues among young law students. He specifically mentioned the right to privacy as a key area of focus. Citing the concept of "one soul," Singh advocated for a shift in societal mindset to ensure the effective implementation of laws and protection of human rights.
National Participation and Prize Distribution
Moot Court Society convener Mani Pratap provided details on the competition's scale, revealing that as many as 30 teams from law institutions across the country participated in this national-level event. To encourage participants, a total prize money of Rs 1.44 lakh was awarded to the winners, highlighting the institution's commitment to promoting excellence in legal education.
The event served as a platform for discussing the evolving role of judges and the importance of human rights in legal practice, with participants gaining insights from esteemed legal figures.
