Jodhpur man kills mother, drug addiction suspected

A shocking incident of matricide has been reported from a village in Jodhpur district, where a 47-year-old man allegedly strangled his elderly mother to death on Monday. Preliminary investigations by the police point towards the accused's drug addiction as the possible motive behind this heinous crime.

The Gruesome Discovery

The crime came to light when the accused's son, Surendra, returned to their home in the area under Banar police station. He found the main door locked from the inside. After his repeated knocking and calls went unanswered, he took an alternate route, entering the house through the terrace of a neighbouring building.

Inside, he was met with a horrifying scene. His 75-year-old grandmother, Parmudi Devi, was lying dead on a cot. Nearby, on another cot, his father, Omprakash Jat (47), was found lying beside the body. The police were immediately alerted.

Confession and Preliminary Findings

Upon the arrival of the police, Omprakash Jat reportedly confessed to the crime. According to officials, the incident occurred when only the mother and son were present at home. The accused first assaulted his mother and then proceeded to strangle her using a rope.

Drug addiction is being considered the primary motive that drove the son to commit this act. The accused allegedly remained in the house with the body after the murder. The police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances.

A Community in Shock

This brutal killing has sent waves of shock and disbelief through the local community. The incident highlights the devastating social and familial consequences of substance abuse. While the legal process will take its course, the tragedy underscores the urgent need for effective intervention and support systems to address drug addiction, which can tear apart the very fabric of family life with catastrophic results.
