In a shocking incident that marred New Year's Eve celebrations, three individuals were brutally shot dead inside a residence in the Gol Chouraha area of Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday evening.
Victims Identified, Police Launch Probe
The deceased have been identified as jewellery trader Dilip Jain, his wife Rekha Jain, and an associate named Vikas Soni. The grim discovery was made after local residents alerted the police upon hearing gunshots emanating from the house at approximately 8:30 PM.
Senior police officials, including DIG Nimish Agarwal, SP Vinod Kumar Meena, and additional SP TS Baghel, swiftly arrived at the crime scene with additional forces. The area was immediately secured, and forensic teams commenced a detailed inspection of the premises.
Trade Links and Gold Under Scanner
While the precise motive and sequence of events remain unestablished, police are delving deep into the commercial dealings of the victims. DIG Agarwal revealed that Dilip Jain worked with gold provided by traders from Mandsaur and nearby towns for jewellery making.
"All angles are being investigated. His financial transactions and any possible rivalry connected to the trade is also being tracked," stated DIG Agarwal. Preliminary information suggests that several kilograms of gold belonging to different businessmen may have been in Jain's possession, making this a significant line of inquiry.
Weapons Recovered, CCTV Footage Seized
According to the preliminary investigation, Vikas Soni had come to meet the Jain couple at their home before the tragic shooting occurred. All three were later found dead inside the house.
Police officials confirmed the recovery of a pistol and a knife from the scene. Crucially, CCTV DVRs installed outside the residence have been taken into custody for examination, which could provide vital clues. The bodies were sent to the district hospital for postmortem.
SP Vinod Kumar Meena confirmed the seizure of the CCTV equipment. A heavy police presence was maintained in the locality through the night as crowds gathered outside the house. The police are yet to definitively ascertain the nature of Vikas Soni's relationship with the jeweller, adding another layer to the complex investigation.
