In a significant crackdown on the narcotics trade, the Jalandhar Rural Police have successfully conducted two separate operations, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of a substantial 1.5 kilograms of heroin. The coordinated raids demonstrate the police's intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Major Haul in Nakodar Leads to Three Arrests
The first and larger operation was executed by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Nakodar. Acting on precise intelligence, a police team set up a checkpoint and intercepted a Hyundai i20 car. The vehicle was occupied by three men: Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, from Mehatpur; Sukhdev Singh from Udhowal; and Lovepreet Singh from Khara.
A thorough search of the car yielded a major find. The police recovered 1.4 kilograms of heroin concealed within the vehicle. The estimated street value of the seized contraband runs into crores of rupees, indicating the scale of the operation the accused were allegedly involved in. All three individuals were immediately taken into custody.
Second Operation in Shahkot Nets Another Accused
In a simultaneous action, police teams from the Shahkot subdivision were also active. In a separate case, they apprehended a man identified as Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Talwan village. During his arrest, the police confiscated 100 grams of heroin from his possession.
This arrest, though involving a smaller quantity, is part of the broader strategy to target both suppliers and street-level peddlers, thereby disrupting the entire supply chain of illicit drugs in the Jalandhar rural belt.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigations
Following the arrests, the police have registered formal cases against all the accused under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The individuals are currently in police remand as the investigations continue.
Authorities are now focusing on interrogating the arrested suspects to uncover the source of the heroin, identify their network of distributors, and trace the money trail. The police have emphasized that these operations are a result of sustained intelligence gathering and a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes.
Senior police officials have commended the teams involved and stated that such crackdowns will continue with increased vigor. The successful seizures and arrests are expected to significantly hamper the flow of hard drugs in the districts of Jalandhar and its surrounding areas, contributing to public safety and health.
