Four police personnel sustained injuries in the early hours of Friday after a violent mob resorted to stone-pelting in Jaipur district. The clash erupted when authorities attempted to dismantle iron railings placed outside a mosque, which were allegedly encroaching upon a public road.
Early Morning Tensions Lead to Violence
The incident occurred around 3 am near the bus stand area in Chomu town, located approximately 40 kilometers from the main city of Jaipur. According to police officials, tensions had been brewing over the encroachment issue. The situation escalated rapidly as a JCB machine was brought in to remove the newly installed railings, prompting a section of the crowd to begin hurling stones at the police team.
Four policemen were injured in the assault and were subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment. Police responded by using tear gas shells and mild force to disperse the agitated crowd and bring the situation under control.
Administration's Efforts and Failed Agreement
Prior to the clash, the local administration had engaged in talks with community members on Thursday evening regarding stones that were previously placed on the road outside the same mosque. The community had reportedly agreed to remove those stones themselves.
However, after the stones were cleared, a fresh controversy emerged. Some individuals began installing iron railings to demarcate a boundary, which again led to objections as the structure was seen as an encroachment onto the public thoroughfare. This set the stage for the police action and the subsequent violence on Friday morning.
Police Response and Precautionary Measures
Senior police officials swiftly moved to the spot to manage the crisis. Usha Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police for Chomu, confirmed that two to three others also sustained minor injuries during the incident. She stated that all senior officers were present and additional forces had been deployed.
To prevent any further escalation or spread of rumors, the district administration took the decisive step of suspending internet services in Chomu for 24 hours as a precautionary measure. Furthermore, police personnel conducted flag marches across the town to project a sense of security and deter any further unrest.
Sanjay Agarwal, the Director General of Police (Law and Order), emphasized that the situation was completely under control. He issued a stern warning, stating, "Strict action will be taken against those taking law into their hands." Police teams have been formed to identify and arrest the individuals responsible for the violence.
Additional police forces were rushed to Chomu from surrounding police stations including Harmada, Vishwakarma, and Daulatpura to bolster security and maintain public order.
