A major interstate criminal, carrying a reward of one lakh rupees, was finally apprehended by Gurgaon police following a dramatic late-night shootout. The incident unfolded on the busy Sohna-Gurgaon road, marking the end of a chase for an offender wanted across three states.
The Encounter and Arrest
Acting on a specific tip-off, a coordinated team from the Crime Branch of Sector-40 and Crime Branch Punhana, Mewat, laid a trap near Mahendwara village. The intelligence indicated that the fugitive, Yadram (50), was traveling towards Sohna on a motorcycle without a registration plate and was armed.
At approximately 10:15 PM on Sunday, the police signaled a suspicious rider on a numberless Honda Livo bike to stop. In a brazen attempt to flee, the rider immediately opened fire on the officers. Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar reported that one bullet struck a government vehicle's door, another hit the bonnet, and a third was stopped by the bulletproof jacket worn by Sub-Inspector Lalit Kumar.
The police team retaliated in self-defence, firing four rounds. In the ensuing exchange, the accused, later identified as Yadram, was shot in both legs. He was swiftly overpowered and taken into custody. Police administered first aid at the scene before shifting him to a local civil hospital for treatment.
Recoveries and Criminal History
A thorough search of the encounter site led to significant recoveries. The police seized the motorcycle, a helmet, a country-made pistol, another pistol, nine empty cartridges, and two live cartridges. Forensic teams, including experts from the fingerprint bureau and the scene-of-crime unit, conducted a detailed inspection.
Investigations revealed that Yadram, a native of Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh who was currently living in Jaipur, Rajasthan, has a long and violent criminal record. He is implicated in nearly two dozen cases across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana. His charges include serious offences like attempted murder, robbery, theft, housebreaking, and violations of the Arms Act.
The substantial reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head was announced in connection with a housebreaking and theft case at a jeweller's shop. This particular case was registered at Pingwan police station in Nuh on December 28.
Legal Proceedings and Aftermath
Following the arrest, the Bhondsi police station registered fresh cases against Yadram. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 109(1), 121(1), 132, and 221, for attempted murder and obstructing government work. An additional case under the Arms Act section 25(1-B)(a) has also been filed.
The successful operation highlights the effectiveness of inter-district and interstate police coordination. The arrest of such a high-profile criminal, who had been evading capture in multiple states, is considered a significant achievement for the Gurgaon and Mewat police forces.
