Indore Police Nab Two for Bag Snatching, Recover Jewellery from Retired Professor
Indore: Two arrested for snatching retired professor's bag

In a swift operation, the Kanadia police in Indore have apprehended two individuals accused of snatching a bag containing valuable jewellery from a retired woman professor. The victim had travelled to the city from Goa before becoming the target of the crime.

How the Robbery Unfolded and the Investigation

The incident was reported on December 23, 2025, when the retired professor approached the Kanadia police station. She stated that her purse was forcefully taken near the Bhandari Resort area. Station in-charge Saharsh Yadav confirmed that a case was immediately registered based on her complaint.

Investigators quickly turned to technology for clues. They meticulously examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding localities. This video evidence, combined with details of the vehicle used, allowed the police to identify the suspects.

The Arrest and Recovery of Evidence

The accused were identified as Kanishk Panthi, a resident of Dwarkapuri, and Sachin Maurya. A search was launched to trace them. According to police, both men sustained injuries while attempting to evade arrest and required medical treatment afterward.

In a significant breakthrough, the police seized the two-wheeler allegedly used to commit the snatching. Another vehicle was also confiscated during the operation. Authorities mentioned that this was the first such crime the duo had been involved in.

Another Swift Action in Aerodrome Area

In a separate but similar incident in Indore, a private school teacher named Alka Verma was robbed of her mobile phone in the Aerodrome area. The miscreant was on a motorcycle. Displaying presence of mind, Verma, who was returning home on foot after classes at a school in Nandbagh, managed to note down the bike's registration number: MP09-AN-1735.

She informed the police immediately. Acting on this crucial lead, officers detained a suspect. During questioning, the individual allegedly confessed to being involved in other similar offences as well, indicating a pattern of such crimes in the region.

These back-to-back incidents highlight concerns over street crime in the city but also demonstrate the effectiveness of prompt reporting and the use of CCTV and vehicle details in modern policing. The Kanadia police's quick response led to the recovery of stolen property and the arrest of the accused, bringing relief to the victims.
