In a major pre-emptive strike against crime and lawlessness, the Indore Police launched an extensive and surprise checking operation across the city on the eve of the New Year celebrations. The large-scale drive, aimed at ensuring public safety and deterring criminal activities, saw police teams deployed strategically at identified hotspots.
Massive Overnight Operation Across City Hotspots
The special drive was executed between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM, a critical period when revelries typically peak. Police personnel fanned out across various locations known for heightened criminal activity. The focus of the operation was squarely on monitoring history-sheeters, anti-social elements, and individuals with a record of illegal activities. The intention, as stated by officials, was twofold: to take immediate preventive action and to ensure that known criminals remain under constant surveillance during the festive period.
Wide-Ranging Legal Actions and Warrant Execution
The results of the intensive checking were significant in scale and scope. During the operation, police personnel checked close to 950 suspects. Legal proceedings were initiated against 377 individuals based on findings during the checks. In a crucial move to clear pending cases, the police also executed more than 126 pending warrants. This included eight permanent warrants, 47 arrest warrants, and 71 bailable warrants. Additionally, summons were served in several other long-pending matters, signaling a crackdown on unresolved legal issues.
Zero Tolerance for Traffic Violations and Public Nuisance
A key component of the drive was ensuring road safety. The police adopted a strict stance against drunk driving, booking 163 motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, 185 challans were issued under the Motor Vehicles Act for related violations. Officers emphasized that zero tolerance will be maintained in such cases to prevent accidents and potential loss of life on city roads.
The drive also targeted public nuisance and substance abuse. Action was taken against public drinking, with 18 cases registered against people found consuming liquor in public places. On the narcotics front, seven cases were registered under the NDPS Act for the consumption of illegal drugs. As a preventive measure, action was also initiated against 73 habitual offenders under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The comprehensive operation by Indore Police underscores a proactive approach to law enforcement during festivals, aiming to create a secure environment for citizens to celebrate peacefully.
