Indore Police Takes Strict Action Against Social Media Misinformation
In a decisive move to combat the spread of false information, the Indore police on Monday registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against five social media accounts. The accounts were allegedly responsible for circulating a misleading video that falsely depicted a violent brawl occurring during a recent concert in the city.
Misleading Video Circulated as Recent Indore Incident
The controversy began when a video started trending on Instagram and other social media platforms on March 21, 2026. The footage showed a physical altercation, with captions claiming the fight took place during a concert by popular Punjabi singer Karan Aujla. The posts specifically located the incident within the jurisdiction of Khajrana police station in Indore.
Police Investigation Reveals Truth
The Indore police social media monitoring team immediately launched a thorough investigation into the viral clip. Their diligent work uncovered that the video was not from Indore at all, but was actually old footage from a concert held in Mumbai. The misleading posts had created unnecessary panic and confusion among local residents, compelling authorities to take swift action.
Police Commissioner's Directives Prompt Action
This enforcement follows strict directives from Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, who has emphasized monitoring and penalizing those who misuse social media to disturb public peace or spread factually incorrect content. The police identified five specific Instagram accounts as being primarily responsible for the initial and most prominent spread of this fake news.
"Do not share any unconfirmed or misleading information on social media," Commissioner Singh warned in a formal advisory issued after the action. "Before hitting 'share' on any photo, video, or message, always verify its authenticity. Spreading rumours is a punishable offence."
Ongoing Vigilance and Additional Event Details
The social media monitoring cell remains on high alert, continuously scanning various platforms for any content that could potentially incite unrest or misinform Indore residents. In related news, the Indore Municipal Corporation has recovered approximately Rs 57.50 lakh as entertainment tax from the actual concert event that was falsely linked to the viral video.
The police action serves as a strong reminder about the serious consequences of spreading misinformation online. Authorities have made it clear that they will not tolerate attempts to manipulate public sentiment or create false narratives through social media platforms.
