Indore Police Busts Illegal Mahua Liquor Unit in Residential House, Arrests Woman

In a significant crackdown on illicit liquor operations, Indore police have uncovered and dismantled an illegal mahua liquor manufacturing unit operating from a residential house in the Khajrana area. The operation led to the arrest of a woman and the seizure of substantial quantities of liquor, raw materials, and brewing equipment.

Decoy Operation Leads to Major Bust

Acting on specific intelligence about unlawful brewing and sales in the Patel Mohalla locality of Khajrana, Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Singh Sendhav formed a dedicated team to gather discreet information. To verify the inputs, police deployed a decoy customer to confirm that liquor was being sold from the suspected house. Once the information was validated, a special team conducted a swift raid at the premises.

During the search, officers recovered over 60 litres of country-made illicit liquor that was stored for sale. In addition to the ready-to-sell liquor, police seized four blue drums containing nearly 400 kilograms of fermented mahua, which is a key raw material for producing the traditional Indian liquor. The raid also yielded two gas burners, large utensils, pipes, containers, and glasses used in the brewing and distribution process.

Accused Woman Admits to Manufacturing and Selling Liquor

The accused was identified as Sunita, 38, wife of the late Ashok Rathore, a resident of Patel Nagar in front of College Colony, Khajrana. According to police reports, Sunita studied only up to Class 6 and was previously a homemaker. During questioning, she allegedly admitted to turning her house into a base for manufacturing mahua liquor and selling it to addicts in the locality to earn quick money.

Police estimated the total value of the seized liquor and materials at approximately Rs 1.50 lakh. All contraband and equipment were formally seized from her possession as part of the investigation.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

A case has been registered at Khajrana police station under Section 34(2) of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. The accused woman was taken into custody following the raid, and further interrogation is underway. Police are focusing on ascertaining the source of the raw mahua used in the brewing process and identifying other individuals connected to the purchase and sale network of the illegal liquor.

This bust highlights the ongoing efforts by Indore police to combat illicit liquor trade in residential areas, which poses significant health and safety risks to the community. Authorities have warned of strict action against such illegal activities and urged citizens to report any suspicious behavior related to unlawful brewing or sales.
