Hyderabad Police Crack Major Institute Burglary, Recover All Stolen Laptops
In a significant breakthrough, the Gachibowli police have successfully cracked the burglary case at the prestigious CR Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS), located on the University of Hyderabad campus. The authorities have recovered all 60 laptops that were stolen during the early hours of February 9.
Three Arrested, Including Two BTech Students
Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the theft. The accused include two second-year BTech Computer Science students from the institute itself, aged 19, and their 30-year-old associate, Regula Chandra Shekar, who is currently unemployed. All three were apprehended at a private hostel in Gowlidoddi where they were residing together.
"We recovered all 60 laptops, three mobile phones, and two cars used in the offence," stated Gachibowli Inspector K Balaraju, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the recovery operation.
Modus Operandi and Investigation Details
According to police investigations, Chandra Shekar learned about the computer lab from the two students, which led to the formulation and execution of the theft plan. The trio, familiar with the campus security protocols, entered the lab through a rear window between 3 AM and 4 AM. Once inside, they cut the CCTV cable to avoid detection and made off with the laptops, which are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 12 lakh.
The stolen goods were transported using a car parked behind the building. In an attempt to evade law enforcement, the accused later changed the vehicle's number plate. However, diligent police teams meticulously analyzed CCTV footage from both the campus and surrounding areas, enabling them to identify and track down the suspects.
Legal Proceedings and Custody
The arrested individuals were produced before a court on Monday, where they were remanded to judicial custody. This swift action underscores the effectiveness of the police investigation in bringing the perpetrators to justice and securing the stolen property.
This incident has drawn attention to security measures on educational campuses and highlights the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and technological tools in solving modern crimes.
