Hyderabad Police Crack Down on Major Illegal Cotton Seed Transport Operation
In a significant enforcement action, the Medchal police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Quthbullapur, successfully dismantled a large-scale illegal seed transport racket. The operation resulted in the seizure of 3,000 kilograms of banned BG-III cotton seeds, valued at approximately ₹90 lakh, and led to the arrest of two individuals involved in the illicit trade.
Intelligence-Led Interception on Outer Ring Road
Acting on specific and actionable intelligence, law enforcement officials intercepted a mini truck near the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad. Upon thorough inspection, authorities discovered the prohibited cotton seed consignment cleverly concealed beneath sacks of cabbage. This deceptive method was apparently employed in an attempt to bypass regulatory checks and evade detection during transit.
Details of the Illegal Transport Operation
Investigations have revealed that the illegal operation was allegedly masterminded by Maguluri Samba Shivarao, who is currently absconding and evading capture. Police reports indicate that the banned seeds were being transported from Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh to Nagpur in Maharashtra, highlighting the interstate nature of the racket.
The vehicle used in the transport, owned by Chevula Narsimulu, was reportedly hired for a sum of ₹30,000 to move the consignment. The truck was driven by Talari Ramesh, with Narsimulu accompanying him during the journey. According to police statements, the identity of the intended receiver in Nagpur was to be disclosed only after the consignment successfully reached its destination, suggesting a level of operational secrecy.
Total Seizure Value and Prior Offences
The total seizure included not only the banned cotton seeds but also the vehicle itself, which is valued at ₹8 lakh. This brings the combined worth of the confiscated items to a substantial ₹98 lakh. Further scrutiny of the case uncovered that Shivarao and Narsimulu have prior involvement in similar offences, with cases registered against them in 2025 at the Atmakur police station in Suryapet district.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigations
The two arrested individuals were promptly produced before a judicial magistrate following their apprehension. Law enforcement agencies are now intensifying their efforts to apprehend the absconding accused, Shivarao, and to trace the broader network behind this illegal seed trade. This crackdown underscores the ongoing commitment of Hyderabad police to combat agricultural contraband and uphold regulatory standards in the seed industry.
