In a significant breakthrough, the Shamshabad police have arrested a 27-year-old cab driver for the brutal murder of a 24-year-old barber in Hyderabad's Kaveliguda village. The arrest comes six days after the grisly crime that shocked the local community.
The Crime and Initial Investigation
The victim, identified as Jampula Mahesh, a resident of Venkatapur village in Moinabad, was found dead with severe injuries on the night of December 24. His body, discovered in an open area in Kaveliguda, bore deep cut wounds on the throat and head. Acting on a formal complaint lodged by the victim's mother on December 25, the Shamshabad police registered a murder case and initiated a thorough investigation.
Officers pursued multiple lines of inquiry, meticulously examining witnesses, collecting forensic evidence, and analysing crucial call detail records (CDR) to piece together the sequence of events leading to the homicide.
Motive and Method of the Attack
Police revealed that the accused, B Ratnam (27), from Borabanda, was driven by a one-sided infatuation. He had developed feelings for a woman who was, in fact, in a relationship with the victim Mahesh. Ratnam perceived Mahesh as the primary obstacle to his proposed marriage with the woman.
Investigators stated that Ratnam meticulously planned the attack. On the day of the crime, December 24, he first procured an axe. He then followed Mahesh from a liquor shop to the isolated crime scene in Kaveliguda. In a calculated move to incapacitate his victim, Ratnam first sprinkled chilli powder on Mahesh's face before attacking him violently with the axe.
Breakthrough and Arrest
The analysis of Mahesh's phone records proved to be a critical turning point in the case. This led the police to question the victim's lover. Based on the information she provided, the investigative team zeroed in on the suspect.
B Ratnam was subsequently arrested from Borabanda on Wednesday. According to the police, the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. He also cooperated with the authorities, leading them to the recovery of the murder weapon from Kaveliguda. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
This case highlights the effective use of traditional policing combined with technical evidence like CDR analysis to swiftly solve a serious crime. The Shamshabad police's probe, spanning less than a week, brought a sense of closure to the victim's family.
