In a significant intervention, the Telangana High Court has stepped in to ensure a thorough investigation into serious allegations made by an elderly doctor couple from Miyapur, Hyderabad. The court has directed the top official of the Cyberabad police to personally oversee the inquiry.
Court's Directives for a Fair Probe
Justice NV Shravan Kumar issued clear orders to the Cyberabad Police Commissioner. The judge instructed the commissioner to take direct charge of supervising the investigation into the complaints filed by the couple in December 2024, April 2025, and June 2025. The court emphasized that appropriate legal action must be taken as expeditiously as possible.
Highlighting the sensitive nature of the allegations, Justice Kumar also suggested that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Madhapur, who is a woman officer, would be ideally positioned to lead the enquiry into the petitioners' grievances.
The Core of the Legal Battle
The couple approached the High Court by filing a petition challenging the perceived inaction of the Miyapur police. Their complaints were targeted against their daughter's live-in partner, who follows a different faith. The elderly doctors, whose daughter is a medical student, made several serious claims:
- Their daughter has been suffering from mental health issues.
- She is being exploited and influenced by her partner.
- The partner has an ulterior motive to grab the family's properties.
- Under this influence, their daughter falsely implicated them in a case of sexual harassment since she was a minor.
The couple's plea sought the court's help to rescue their daughter from her partner's control.
Judicial Scrutiny of Police Action
The court took serious note of the fact that the police had closed the couple's complaints, citing a lack of evidence. This inaction was contrasted sharply with the police's proactive approach in the case filed by the daughter against her parents.
Justice Kumar, while disposing of the matter on December 29, made a crucial observation. He remarked that the police, who had not only registered a case against the elderly couple but also filed a chargesheet, were equally obligated to investigate the couple's complaints with the same level of diligence.
This directive underscores the judiciary's role in ensuring that the police machinery remains impartial and thorough, investigating all sides of a complex familial and legal dispute without prejudice.
