In a dramatic turn of events, the elder sister of a 12-year-old girl murdered in Hazaribag has publicly challenged the police version of the case, raising serious questions about the investigation's integrity. This development comes just one day after authorities claimed to have cracked the case with the arrest of the victim's mother and two others.
Family Member Contradicts Police Claims
Speaking to media representatives in Hazaribag on Friday, the victim's elder sister directly contradicted police assertions that the killing was linked to human sacrifice. "My brother is perfectly healthy," she stated emphatically, undermining the police theory that the mother allegedly murdered her daughter because her son was unwell.
The sister further alleged that "the main conspirator behind the crime is still absconding and has not been arrested so far." She expressed disbelief at her mother's alleged involvement, questioning, "My mother has not even sacrificed a goat—how can we believe she committed such a crime?"
Public Outrage Spills Onto Streets
Meanwhile, public anger over the tragic incident manifested in widespread protests across Hazaribag. On Friday, hundreds of demonstrators organized a rally from Kusumbha to Vishnugarh under the banner of the Sampoorna Sankat Mochan Foundation.
Led by Amisha Prasad and former district council member Yasoda Devi, protesters marched with placards and slogans demanding capital punishment for those responsible for the girl's death. The demonstration highlighted growing community frustration with both the crime and the subsequent investigation.
Political Figures Question Police Investigation
Adding to the controversy, Amba Prasad, national secretary of the Congress and part of Jharkhand's ruling alliance, accused police of presenting what she called a "concocted story." Addressing media in Ranchi, the former Barkagaon MLA raised critical questions about procedural irregularities.
"According to the police statement, the deceased's mother is the killer. However, as per the original FIR, she is the informant. Has the FIR been altered? Because now the informant herself has become the accused," Prasad questioned. She further asked, "From whom will the police get the FIR validated in court?"

Prasad highlighted several apparent investigation failures, claiming police neglected to secure the crime scene properly. "The police failed to secure the crime scene and left it open for nine days. Why was it left unsecured?" she demanded.
She also pointed to inconsistencies in the police account, noting that the original FIR named Dhaneshwar Paswan and others as complainants. "Who are they? Have they been questioned? What was the outcome?" she asked, suggesting these individuals might hold crucial information.
Prasad warned that "statements recorded by police will not hold in court unless properly substantiated," indicating potential legal challenges ahead for the prosecution.
