APSDRF Clinches Third Place in National Collapsed Structure Rescue Competition
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response Force (APSDRF) has demonstrated exceptional skill and preparedness by securing third place at the national-level Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) competitions. Held in Ghaziabad under the supervision of the 8th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), this prestigious event brought together elite teams from across India to test their capabilities in simulated disaster scenarios.
Competition Details and Participants
Teams from eight states participated in the intense CSSR contest, showcasing their expertise in search and rescue operations. The participating states included Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, among others. This national-level competition is designed to evaluate and enhance the readiness of state disaster response forces in handling emergencies such as building collapses, which require swift and efficient action to save lives.
APSDRF's Performance and Regional Success
Prior to this national achievement, the APSDRF had already proven its mettle by finishing as the runner-up at the regional-level CSSR competitions. These regional events involved teams from southern states, highlighting the APSDRF's consistent performance and dedication to disaster management. The progression from regional success to a top-three finish at the national level underscores the team's rigorous training and commitment to excellence.
Recognition and Incentives
In recognition of their outstanding performance, Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta felicitated the APSDRF team at the police headquarters in Mangalagiri on Friday. During the ceremony, DGP Gupta announced a cash incentive of Rs 75,000 for the team, acknowledging their hard work and contribution to enhancing disaster response capabilities in Andhra Pradesh. This gesture not only rewards the team's efforts but also motivates them to continue striving for higher standards in future competitions.
Importance of CSSR Competitions
Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue competitions are critical for disaster preparedness, as they simulate real-life scenarios where quick and effective response can mean the difference between life and death. By participating in such events, forces like the APSDRF gain valuable experience, improve their techniques, and foster collaboration with other state teams. This ultimately strengthens India's overall disaster management framework, ensuring better protection for citizens during emergencies.
The APSDRF's success in these competitions reflects the state's proactive approach to disaster management and its investment in training and equipping its response forces. As disasters become more frequent due to factors like climate change and urbanization, such initiatives are essential for building resilient communities.
