In a significant move against the promotion of gangster culture, the Special Task Force (STF) and cyber unit of Haryana Police have taken action against 67 objectionable songs. These tracks were available on popular music streaming platforms such as YouTube and Spotify.
Major Crackdown on Digital Content
Officials announced the crackdown on Tuesday, highlighting its focus on content that glorifies weapons, violence, and criminal lifestyles. During a thorough investigation, police discovered that these songs were influencing young people across the state.
Harmful Impact on Youth
The STF and cyber unit found that the music portrayed an unrealistic image of luxury linked to gangster life. This misleading portrayal was pushing youth toward criminal activities. Most of the identified content has now been removed or blocked from the platforms.
Haryana Police stated that this action marks only the beginning. They promised more stringent measures against similar content in the future.
DGP's Strong Message
Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Singhal called this step crucial for society and the younger generation. He explained that the police aim not just to stop crime but to prevent young people from entering the criminal world.
Singhal emphasized that these songs often project criminals as role models. They showcase a glamorous lifestyle that is far from reality. The truth is that the lives of such criminals are filled with hardships, dangers, and, ultimately, legal consequences, he said.
He added that families of criminals frequently suffer due to their illegal activities. The DGP reiterated that no platform would be allowed to host content promoting crime culture.
Appeal to Artists and Creators
Singhal also appealed to artists and content creators to act responsibly. He urged them to avoid producing material that misleads youth.
Police Engage with Digital Influencers
STF Inspector General Satheesh Balan noted the growing influence of digital content on young minds. Police have held discussions with singers, lyricists, and creators, advising them against glorifying violence, gangster elements, or weapons.
Balan revealed that the STF and cyber unit are closely monitoring individuals who like or share posts of criminals on social media. This proactive approach aims to curb the spread of harmful content online.
The crackdown underscores Haryana Police's commitment to safeguarding youth from the allure of criminal glamour. It signals a broader effort to clean up digital spaces from content that endangers societal values.
