Two Haryana Brothers Arrested After Encounter in Connection with Postmaster's Murder
In a dramatic turn of events, Mathura Police on Tuesday arrested two brothers from Haryana following an encounter, linking them to the kidnapping and murder of a 23-year-old postmaster. The incident allegedly stemmed from the victim's opposition to his niece's marriage, according to official statements.
Details of the Kidnapping and Murder
Police reports indicate that Ramveer Singh, a resident of Kosi Kalan, was allegedly abducted on February 9 while en route to work. He was intercepted by Bharat Tewatia, aged 25, and his brother Ranjeet, aged 28, both of whom were engaged in private finance work. The accused forcibly took him away in a car.
The situation turned fatal when the accused allegedly shot Ramveer inside the vehicle. Subsequently, they burned his body and disposed of it in Palwal. The car and the weapon used in the crime were abandoned in Mathura's Chhata area, adding layers of complexity to the investigation.
Recovery of the Body and Investigation
The victim's partially charred body was recovered from a canal in Palwal on February 13 by Haryana Police. Ramveer is survived by his wife, Sonam, and their 10-month-old son, leaving a family in mourning.
The body was identified by Ramveer's brother, Ajit, based on distinctive marks on his leg and a ring he was wearing. Following this identification, an FIR was registered at Shergarh police station under BNS sections 103(1) for murder and 140 for kidnapping, as confirmed by officials.
Motive Behind the Crime
Shergarh SHO Pradeep Kumar provided insights into the motive, stating, "CCTV footage was instrumental in tracing the suspects to Haryana. During the investigation, it was revealed that Ramveer's niece had married Bharat, a resident of Alawalpur village in Palwal, in December 2025 without the family's consent. Ramveer's opposition to this marriage is believed to have sparked the enmity that led to this tragic outcome."
Encounter and Arrest
SP (rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat detailed the arrest, explaining, "The accused were apprehended from a dhaba in Kosi Kalan, located near the Uttar Pradesh-Haryana border. While being transported for the recovery of the murder weapon, Bharat fired at the police with intent to kill. In retaliatory firing, he was shot in the right leg and later admitted for medical treatment."
Authorities recovered a car, a country-made pistol, and cartridges from the scene. A separate FIR has been registered in connection with the encounter under BNS section 109 for attempt to murder and relevant provisions of the Arms Act, as added by the SP.
