Lucknow: Grandson Strangles Grandmother for Rs 100 for Liquor, Police Crack Case
Hardoi: Grandson kills grandmother over Rs 100 for liquor

In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, police have solved the murder of a 60-year-old woman, revealing her own grandson as the killer. The tragic event unfolded in Balhehra village after the elderly woman refused to give him a mere one hundred rupees to buy liquor.

A Gruesome Discovery in the Village

The victim, identified as Savitri Devi (60), was the wife of a former village head. She lived alone in her ancestral home in Balhehra, while her immediate family resided in Mahdoiya village under Lucknow's Rahimabad police station. The alarm was raised on December 30, when neighbours grew suspicious after not seeing Savitri Devi step out of her house the entire day.

One concerned neighbour informed her son, Atul, who rushed to the village late that night. Upon entering the house, Atul was met with a horrifying sight: his mother was lying dead on her cot. An electric wire was tightly wrapped around her neck, indicating she had been strangled.

Police Investigation Zeroes In on Family

Following Atul's complaint, the police at Behta Gokul police station registered a murder case against unknown persons and launched an intensive investigation. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena formed two special teams to crack the case. The probe, led by Additional SP (West) MP Singh, utilized surveillance inputs, local intelligence, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).

This coordinated effort led the police to focus on the woman's grandson, Sandeep Singh alias Shailu (25), who also lived in Balhehra village. The accused was subsequently arrested on Sunday.

Confession Reveals a Fatal Demand for Money

During interrogation, Sandeep Singh allegedly confessed to the crime. Police stated that he frequently visited his grandmother's house and was often entrusted with running local errands. On the fateful day of December 30, he demanded Rs 100 from Savitri Devi to purchase liquor.

When she refused, he lost his temper. In a fit of rage, he strangled her using an electric wire that was lying nearby. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena confirmed the details of the confession.

The accused was produced before a court and has been sent to jail. Police investigations further revealed that Sandeep Singh has two previous cases of assault already registered against him at the Behta Gokul police station. Further investigation into the murder is ongoing.
