Major Drug Bust in Hanumangarh: Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 1.5 Crore
In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Hanumangarh police have apprehended two individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of heroin valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore. Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena announced the arrests on Sunday, highlighting the operation as part of an ongoing campaign against organized crime.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
The arrested individuals have been identified as Simarjeet Singh (20) and Arshdeep Singh (21), both hailing from Ramsara village in the Bathinda district of Punjab. According to SP Meena, a police team led by Sangaria Station House Officer Amar Singh established a checkpoint on the Jamnagar-Amritsar highway, also known as Bharatmala Road, near Rohi Ratanpura.
The officers intercepted the duo, who were traveling on a motorcycle, and conducted a search that led to the recovery of 725 grams of illegal heroin. The seizure underscores the scale of the drug trafficking network operating in the region.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
A formal case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sangaria police station. SP Meena emphasized that interrogation of the suspects is currently underway to trace the supply chain and identify other members involved in the trafficking network.
The investigation is being spearheaded by SHO Jagdish Singh of the Talwara police station, indicating a coordinated effort across jurisdictions to dismantle the criminal operation.
Broader Anti-Crime Drive
SP Meena clarified that this action is a component of a comprehensive drive targeting not only drug trafficking but also other organized crimes, including illegal arms, gambling, and property-related offences. The initiative reflects the police department's commitment to enhancing public safety and curbing illicit activities in the area.
The successful bust on the busy highway route demonstrates the effectiveness of strategic checkpoints and vigilant policing in intercepting narcotics before they reach consumers.
