In a significant breakthrough, the Shirva police in Udupi district have successfully apprehended a habitual offender involved in a series of two-wheeler thefts. The arrest led to the recovery of five stolen scooters and motorcycles, bringing relief to multiple victims.
The Bantakal Theft That Led to the Arrest
The case came to light following a theft reported from Bantakal on December 5. According to the police complaint filed by Gunavathi, her son had taken her scooter to an engineering college in Bantakal. During the lunch break around 12:45 pm, he parked the vehicle near a temple while he went for lunch. Upon his return at 1:15 pm, he discovered the scooter missing. The stolen vehicle was estimated to be worth Rs 60,000.
Police Investigation and Multi-City Search
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Shirva police formed a special team to track down the culprit. The team conducted extensive search operations across several locations, including Udupi, Malpe, Karkala, and Dharmasthala. Their diligent efforts paid off when they managed to locate and arrest the accused, identified as Om Kolar.
Confession and Recovery of Stolen Vehicles
During interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the theft. Based on the information he provided, the police launched a recovery operation. They successfully retrieved one two-wheeler from within the limits of the Shirva police station. Furthermore, the investigation revealed Kolar's connection to other theft cases. The police recovered four additional two-wheelers linked to cases registered in Kaup and Bengaluru city. In total, five stolen vehicles were recovered thanks to the police operation.
The accused, Om Kolar, has been presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody. This arrest highlights the effectiveness of coordinated police work in cracking down on habitual criminals and restoring property to rightful owners.
