Gurgaon Police Apprehend Two Accused in Dramatic Shootout Following Extortion Spree

In a significant breakthrough, Gurgaon police have arrested two individuals after a violent confrontation, linking them to a series of extortion-related incidents that shook the region. The accused, identified as Anil alias Khan Gujar, aged 25, and Manish, aged 18, were taken into custody following a shootout that occurred two days ago, marking the culmination of an intensive investigation.

Details of the Extortion Incidents

According to police reports, the duo is alleged to have carried out two separate firing incidents on March 14. The first targeted a liquor vend located near Sector 68 in Chandawli, where they demanded a 10% share of the business profits. The second incident involved the office of a property dealer in Machhagar village, where they left a threatening note demanding a hefty sum of Rs 50 lakh as a so-called "fee." These acts were designed to instill fear and assert control over local enterprises.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Varun Dahiya provided insights into the timeline, noting that the incidents transpired between 11 PM and 11:30 PM. Crucial evidence from CCTV cameras played a pivotal role in identifying the suspects, enabling law enforcement to swiftly zero in on their movements.

The Arrest and Shootout

In response to the crimes, three specialized teams were formed, comprising officers from the Crime Branch Uncha Gaon, Sector 65, and Sector 85. Their efforts bore fruit on Wednesday night when the Crime Branch Uncha Gaon team received a tip-off regarding the suspects' movement toward Machhagar.

A strategic blockade was established near an under-construction Indian Oil building to intercept the accused. When police attempted to apprehend them, Manish, who was operating the motorcycle, was subdued at the scene. However, Anil attempted to flee and opened fire on the police team, leading to a retaliatory exchange.

During the confrontation, Anil sustained a bullet injury to his leg. Both individuals were subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention, with Anil reported to be in stable condition after treatment. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol, two live cartridges, three empty shells, and the motorcycle used in the criminal activities from the site.

Background and Legal Ramifications

Investigations revealed that Anil has a extensive criminal history, with 12 prior cases registered against him, including charges of robbery, dacoity, attempt to murder, and violations of the Arms Act. Notably, he was arrested in an attempt to murder case in July 2025 and had been released from jail approximately two months before the recent incidents.

ACP Dahiya emphasized that Anil aimed to establish a "reign of terror" and build a gang to further his illicit activities. He stated, "As soon as he came under the police's radar for carrying out such activities, the police took action and the Crime Branch team tightened the noose around him."

In light of these events, police have issued a stern warning, affirming their commitment to taking strict action against individuals involved in extortion and other criminal acts. A separate case has been registered at the Sadar Ballabhgarh police station in connection with the shootout, underscoring the legal consequences awaiting such offenders.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Gurgaon police to combat organized crime and ensure public safety in the region.
