Gurgaon man feared drowned in open drain, friend questioned

A massive search operation is currently underway in Gurgaon for a 40-year-old man who is feared to have drowned after falling into an open drain in Daulatabad village. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, sending shockwaves through the local community and raising serious questions about public safety.

Sequence of Events Under Scrutiny

According to the Gurgaon police, the missing individual, identified as Arjun, a resident of Firoz Gandhi Colony, had gone to Daulatabad village on Tuesday evening to meet his friends. The group reportedly consumed alcohol near the village bus stop. One of his friends, Rupesh, who is now being questioned by authorities, provided an account of the night's events.

Rupesh informed the police that by around 9 pm, Arjun had become heavily intoxicated and was unable to return home on his own. In an attempt to get him home, Rupesh booked a Rapido bike. However, as Arjun was unable to move properly, he was allegedly made to lie down at the bus stop while Rupesh returned home.

The Fateful Night and Disappearance

The situation took a grim turn later that night. After receiving a call from Arjun's father, Rupesh went back to the bus stop to take his friend home on his own bike. Rupesh's statement claims that before sitting on the bike, Arjun stood near the bus stop to relieve himself. It was during this moment that he allegedly lost his balance and fell into the open drain running alongside the road.

Rupesh further claimed to the police that he immediately jumped into the drain in an attempt to rescue Arjun, but could not locate him in the dark, fast-flowing water. This account has now become the focal point of the investigation.

Family's Doubts and Ongoing Investigation

The family of Arjun has expressed significant doubts over the sequence of events narrated by Rupesh. These suspicions have prompted the police to subject Rupesh's testimony to intense scrutiny. The authorities are meticulously verifying every detail of his statement while continuing their desperate search for Arjun.

The incident has also highlighted the perennial issue of open drains and inadequate safety covers in urban and semi-urban areas, posing a constant threat to residents. The search operation, involving local police and disaster response teams, remains active as hope for finding Arjun alive dwindles with each passing hour.
