Gurgaon Mall Tragedy: Shift Manager Dies After 15-Foot Fall in Basement
In a tragic incident at Badshapur's M3M Mall in Gurgaon, a 26-year-old shift manager lost his life after slipping and falling through an opening from basement 1 to basement 2. Police confirmed the details, highlighting the severity of the accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The victim, identified as Rizwan, was a native of Tarbaganj village in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, and resided in Sector 85 of Gurgaon. He worked as a shift manager at a fast-food outlet located within the mall. According to police reports, the incident took place around 2:30 PM on Thursday.
The height between the two basement floors was approximately 15 feet, making the fall particularly dangerous. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led Rizwan to the basement area, as it remains unclear why he was there at the time of the accident.
Police Investigation and Safety Concerns
Police have launched a thorough investigation to determine if any safety lapses contributed to the tragedy. "We are verifying whether any safety lapses occurred during the maintenance work and whether warning signs were placed near the opening," a police official stated. This scrutiny aims to assess compliance with safety protocols in the mall's infrastructure.
Following the fall, Rizwan was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival, indicating the severity of his injuries from the 15-foot drop.
Family Statements and Post-Mortem
Police have recorded statements from Rizwan's family members as part of the ongoing inquiry. "No foul play has come to light so far," authorities noted, suggesting that the incident appears to be accidental at this stage. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and was subsequently handed over to the grieving family on Friday.
This incident raises significant concerns about workplace safety in commercial establishments like malls, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
