Police Crack Murder Case in Ballari Village, Grandson Arrested
In a shocking development, the Ballari police have successfully cracked a suspicious death case in Karekallu village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the PD Halli police station. The authorities have arrested the victim's grandson for allegedly murdering her in a brutal robbery attempt targeting cash and jewellery.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
According to Superintendent of Police Suman D Pannekar, the victim, identified as Veeramma, 60, wife of Basavanagouda, was discovered dead at her residence on March 21. Initially, an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) was registered, but the case took a grim turn when a postmortem report on March 24 confirmed that she had been killed using a sharp weapon, leading to its conversion into a murder investigation.
A special investigation team was swiftly formed, led by Siruguppa DSP Malatesh Kunabevu, along with CPI T Subhash Chandra, and PSIs Thimmareddy and Sureshappa. Their diligent efforts uncovered the horrifying sequence of events.
Accused's Actions and Evidence Recovery
The accused, M Virendra, 21, son of the late Mallikarjun, allegedly stayed at his grandmother's house on the night of March 20. While she was asleep, he slit her throat with a sharp weapon. Police reports indicate that he then fled the scene with stolen items, including 80 grams of fake gold jewellery and approximately Rs 23,000 in cash.
In a desperate attempt to destroy evidence, Virendra set the body on fire before escaping to Hagalur village. However, the police team managed to track him down and recover crucial evidence, including the murder weapon, blood-stained clothes, and the stolen cash and jewellery.

The accused has been formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody, marking a significant breakthrough in this distressing case. The police have emphasized the thoroughness of their investigation, which involved meticulous forensic analysis and on-ground tracking to piece together the crime.
