A tragic road accident in Gorakhpur resulted in the death of a young schoolteacher and left her younger sister injured after a speeding truck collided with their scooter. The incident occurred near the Nibihwa railway overbridge in the Chauri Chaura area on Saturday, sparking significant chaos and a prolonged traffic jam on the busy Gorakhpur–Deoria road.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The deceased has been identified as Shreya Vishwakarma, a 24-year-old resident of Chauri village under the Chauri Chaura police station. She was employed as a teacher at a private school in Futhwa Inar. According to police reports, Shreya was traveling to school with her younger sister, Khushi Vishwakarma, aged 20, when a high-speed truck coming from the Gorakhpur side rammed into their scooter near the overbridge.
The impact caused both sisters to fall onto the road. Tragically, Shreya came under the wheels of the truck and sustained severe head injuries, leading to her immediate death at the scene. Khushi was thrown a distance away and suffered multiple injuries in the crash.
Aftermath and Police Response
Following the accident, the truck driver fled the scene towards Deoria, evading immediate capture. The incident attracted a large crowd of onlookers, and angry local residents blocked the road in protest, resulting in a traffic jam that lasted for nearly half an hour on this crucial stretch.
Chauri Chaura police promptly arrived at the location. They arranged for Shreya's body to be sent for a post-mortem examination and rushed Khushi to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Authorities have stated that efforts are underway to identify the truck involved through analysis of CCTV footage and to trace the absconding driver.
