A junior assistant working in the Borabanda Circle of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a complainant. The accused, identified as B Srilatha, served as a junior assistant in the Revenue/Tax department at the office of the deputy commissioner, Borabanda Circle-37, Khairatabad Zone.
Details of the Bribe Demand
According to an ACB press note, Srilatha demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant to process and hand over house construction permission. The complainant subsequently approached the ACB, leading to a trap being laid.
ACB Trap and Recovery
The ACB Hyderabad City Range-I team trapped the accused official at around 2 pm near a supermarket at Yousufguda Checkpost when she accepted the first instalment of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. The tainted bribe amount was recovered from her possession. Chemical tests conducted on the fingers of both her hands yielded positive results, confirming the acceptance of the bribe.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The accused was arrested and will be produced before the principal and special judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The identity of the complainant has been withheld by the ACB for security reasons. The case is currently under investigation.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the ACB to curb corruption in government departments. The public is encouraged to report any instances of bribery or corruption to the authorities.
