Ghaziabad Police Apprehend Robber Following Intense Gun Battle in Sihani Gate
In a dramatic late-night operation, Ghaziabad police successfully arrested a suspected robber following a brief but intense gunfight in the Sihani Gate area on Wednesday. The encounter resulted in injuries to the accused, while one of his associates managed to evade capture under the cover of darkness.
Police Operation Based on Specific Intelligence
According to authorities, the incident unfolded after law enforcement received credible information about criminal activities. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Upasana Pandey of Sihani Gate revealed that a coordinated operation was launched involving multiple specialized units.
"A joint team comprising SWAT personnel, crime branch investigators, and local police officers acted on a specific tip-off regarding a red Swift car that was allegedly being used to plan a robbery," Pandey explained.
Confrontation and Exchange of Fire
Police established a strategic checkpoint near Hamdard Chowraha during the early morning hours. When officers signaled the suspicious vehicle to stop, the situation escalated rapidly.
"The car attempted to evade police by ramming into a tree, after which its occupants attempted to flee on foot," detailed ACP Pandey. "The suspects then opened fire on the police team with clear intent to cause harm. Our officers responded with controlled retaliatory firing, during which one accused sustained a leg injury while his accomplice escaped."
Arrest and Recovery of Evidence
The injured suspect has been identified as Irfan (20), a resident of Loni. He received medical treatment for his left leg injury at a government hospital following the encounter.
From Irfan's possession, police made significant recoveries including:
- A country-made pistol of .315 bore
- One live cartridge and two empty cartridges
- Rs 1,500 in cash
- Four mobile phones believed to be looted property
- The red Swift car used in the alleged criminal activities
Connection to Previous Criminal Incident
During interrogation, Irfan reportedly confessed to involvement in a previous criminal case. According to police statements, he admitted participation in an incident that occurred on January 23 in the Tundla police station area of Firozabad district.
The suspect described how he and his associates had allegedly:
- Booked an Eco car
- Kidnapped the driver
- Forced him to consume an intoxicating substance
- Looted his vehicle, mobile phone, and cash
- Abandoned him in Firozabad
Irfan also identified the escaped accomplice as Mustafat, another resident of Loni. Police have intensified search operations to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Ghaziabad police to combat organized crime through coordinated operations and intelligence-based policing. The recovery of weapons and stolen property, along with the confession linking the suspect to previous crimes, represents a significant breakthrough in local law enforcement efforts.
