Fugitive Apprehended at Mangaluru Airport Following Two-Year International Evasion
In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, an accused individual who had been absconding abroad for nearly two years was successfully arrested upon his arrival at Mangaluru International Airport on Tuesday. The arrest marks the culmination of an extensive manhunt that spanned international borders.
Details of the Accused and Case Background
The arrested individual has been identified as Ibrahim Batees, a resident of Kanyana in Bantwal. He was named as an accused in a case originally registered at the Vittal police station back in 2019. The charges against him are serious and multifaceted, including violations under Sections 427, 504, 394, and 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, the case involves Section 2(A) of the Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act, indicating allegations related to property damage and criminal intimidation.
Extended Evasion and Coordinated Arrest Operation
Following the registration of the case, Ibrahim Batees failed to appear before the court for trial proceedings. He subsequently evaded arrest by remaining overseas, effectively staying beyond the reach of Indian authorities for approximately 24 months. The breakthrough came when the Vittal police received specific intelligence regarding his planned return. Acting swiftly on this information, police personnel, in close coordination with immigration authorities at Mangaluru International Airport, positioned themselves to intercept the accused the moment he arrived from abroad.
The coordinated operation between local police and airport immigration officials proved successful, leading to his immediate detention at the airport.
Legal Proceedings and Current Status
After his arrest, Ibrahim Batees was formally produced before the jurisdictional judge. The court, after reviewing the case details and the prolonged evasion, has remanded the accused in judicial custody until March 7. This custody period will allow for further investigation and legal procedures to move forward, ensuring he remains in custody while the judicial process continues.
This arrest underscores the persistent efforts of the Vittal police in pursuing long-pending cases and demonstrates effective inter-agency cooperation, particularly with immigration authorities, to bring fugitives to justice, even after extended periods of evasion abroad.
