Kolkata Police Swiftly Rescue Four Missing Class 9 Girls from Asansol Railway Station
In a rapid and coordinated operation, the Amherst Street Police and Asansol Government Railway Police successfully rescued four class 9 girls who had gone missing from north Kolkata on Thursday night. The teenagers, who fled their homes fearing parental backlash after visiting a local cafe, were tracked down to Asansol station within just 12 hours of their disappearance, highlighting the effectiveness of modern investigative techniques.
Timely Police Intervention and Initial Investigation
When the four girls failed to return home from school, their anxious family members immediately alerted the authorities. Police officers sprang into action, recording statements from classmates and meticulously scanning social media activity. This digital footprint revealed a crucial lead: one of the girls was in contact with a youth from Mumbai via Instagram. Further investigation uncovered that this individual was currently in Asansol for a wedding, providing a potential location clue.
Breakthrough Through Audio Evidence and CCTV Footage
The investigation took a significant turn when one of the girls used a stranger's phone to contact a friend in Hyderabad. This friend then shared an audio clip with the police. "In the background, we could clearly hear the rumble of a train and a girl mentioning the need to find a hotel. That auditory evidence confirmed they were near a major railway junction," explained an officer involved in the case. Simultaneously, CCTV footage from Howrah Station showed the girls entering a restroom in their school uniforms and exiting in casual attire, a deliberate attempt to avoid detection.
Rescue Operation and Distressing Circumstances
Acting on these leads, a Kolkata police team, assisted by ASI Jugal Kishor De of the Asansol GRP, located and rescued the four girls near Asansol station. Their ordeal was compounded by distressing news: the Mumbai-based youth they intended to meet had reportedly met with an accident while scouting for accommodation, adding a layer of urgency and concern to the situation.
This incident underscores the critical role of:
- Prompt parental and police response in missing persons cases.
- Social media monitoring as a key investigative tool.
- Inter-agency cooperation between Kolkata and railway police.
The swift rescue prevented potential harm and reunited the girls with their families, serving as a reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by teenagers and the importance of community vigilance in urban settings.
