In a shocking incident of brutality, Delhi Police have arrested four individuals for allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old cab driver to death after he refused to take them on a "joyride" to India Gate. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of December 3, stemmed from a confrontation that began when the group was celebrating a birthday.
The Fatal Refusal and Brutal Attack
The victim, identified as Kuldeep from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was parked in the Bhogal area near Hazrat Nizamuddin. According to police, the prime accused, Imran alias Panwadi, was with three others celebrating his birthday. The group, allegedly in an inebriated state, wanted Kuldeep to drive them to India Gate for a night-out.
When Kuldeep refused the ride, a heated argument ensued. The situation quickly turned violent. The men are accused of first beating the driver and then, when he continued to refuse, stabbing him brutally. After the attack, they dumped his body in the bushes under the Barapullah flyover near Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and fled the scene with his car, driving around the Bhogal area.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The case was cracked after police received a PCR call on the morning of December 3 about an unidentified body. DCP (South East) Hemant Tiwari stated that a combination of crucial CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and human intelligence led to the identification of the suspects.
"The team successfully established the identity of the suspects. Subsequently, the prime accused, Imran, was apprehended," said DCP Tiwari. All four men were arrested by Friday, December 6. During interrogation, the accused initially tried to mislead investigators by framing the incident as a case of road rage, claiming the fight started because Kuldeep objected to one of them urinating near his cab.
Criminal Past and Aftermath
Police investigations revealed that the main accused, Imran, already has three cases of theft registered against him. The chilling motive—a denied joyride on a birthday night—has highlighted extreme violence over a trivial matter. Kuldeep, who had come to Delhi for his livelihood, became a victim of this senseless crime.
The swift arrests have brought a measure of justice, but the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of cab drivers in the national capital. The police have confirmed all details of the attack and the subsequent cover-up attempt by the accused.
