Krishnagiri: Five men were arrested from a hideout in the early hours of Sunday in connection with a robbery at the residence of an army veteran in Krishnagiri on June 12. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Irshad (20), Amshad (23), Arbaz (29), Syed Basil (27), and Noor Mohammed (28), all residents of Krishnagiri town.
Details of the Robbery
The theft occurred at the home of M Nagasamy (53), a retired Indian Army soldier who now works as an astrologer. He resides in K A Nagar Darga and has rented out 12 rooms in his property to migrant workers. According to police, three women from Coimbatore had hired rooms two days before the incident. On the day of the robbery, a gang forced their way into the premises, claiming they wanted to question the women. Instead, they intimidated other residents and made off with cash and jewellery.
Krishnagiri district SP P Thangadurai stated, “The gang also damaged CCTV cameras installed in the premises and stole the recordings.”
Investigation and Arrests
A team led by inspector M Manimaran from the Krishnagiri taluk station identified the accused and traced them following intensive investigation. “They recovered ₹70,500 in cash, along with gold including some rings, a chain and a silver bracelet,” the SP added. The recovered property was recorded and produced before the court.
All five accused were presented before the judicial magistrate court–II, Krishnagiri, on Sunday and remanded in judicial custody until June 25. They have been lodged at the Dharmapuri district jail.
Absconding Suspects
Meanwhile, two other accused identified as Sethu and Thirumalai are still absconding. Special police teams have been formed and dispatched to different places to locate and arrest them.
