A shocking case of patricide has emerged from Karnataka's Chitradurga district, where a 35-year-old farmer allegedly beat his own father to death. The tragic incident, driven by a long-standing grievance over an unarranged marriage, occurred late on Wednesday night at their family residence in Hosadurga.
Quarrel Over Marriage Ends in Tragedy
The accused, identified as S Ningaraja, was arrested on charges of murdering his father, T Sannaningappa. The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by Ningaraja's elder brother, S Maruti, who works for a private company in Hosadurga town.
According to the complaint, the core of the conflict was Ningaraja's deep-seated anger towards his father for not having arranged a marriage for him. He reportedly resented that his father, who had married twice, had not facilitated a union for him, while many of his peers in the village were already married with children.
The Fatal Night of Violence
Tensions reached a breaking point on Wednesday night. During dinner, Ningaraja quarrelled violently with his father, once again over the marriage issue, and allegedly threatened to kill him. Later, around midnight, Maruti received an alarming call from a relative informing him that his brother had attacked their father.
The police report states that Ningaraja assaulted his sleeping father on the head with an iron rod. The assailant allegedly shouted, "You have two wives while I have none," during the brutal attack. The critically injured Sannaningappa was rushed to the Hosadurga hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Background of Family Discord
Investigations reveal that the relationship between father and son was strained beyond the marriage dispute. Sannaningappa was often upset with Ningaraja over what he perceived as a lazy attitude and would frequently admonish him to work harder in their fields. Ningaraja, in turn, consistently blamed his father for his unmarried status, viewing it as a personal failure and a social embarrassment.
The local police have taken Ningaraja into custody, and a murder case has been registered. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Hosadurga community, highlighting a tragic culmination of familial pressure and personal despair.
