A 25-year-old resident of Faridabad remains hospitalised and unable to provide a formal statement to the police, two days after she was subjected to a horrific gang rape, a savage assault, and then pushed out of a moving vehicle. The incident has left her with severe trauma injuries, particularly to her face, and multiple fractures.
Critical Condition and Medical Details
The victim is under close medical supervision, with stitches on her face and other trauma-related wounds. Doctors have confirmed multiple fractures, including severe damage to the right side of her face and shoulder. She has sustained fractures to her right facial bones, specifically the zygomatic region, which has also impacted the muscles surrounding her eye and cheek.
Hospital officials stated that she is scheduled for surgery to address these facial and eye injuries. Due to the gravity of her condition, she is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). "The woman is out of danger but will have to undergo surgery. She is in the ICU and will take time to recover. She is traumatised," a police officer confirmed.
Family Anguish and Political Reaction
The victim's elder sister revealed to the media that when police attempted to record her statement on Thursday, she was in intense pain and unable to speak. "We are yet to know what exactly happened to her," the sister said. The victim is a mother of two young children—a four-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter—who are now with their maternal grandmother. She is one of five sisters and has been living separately from her husband, who is based in Delhi.
A family member at the hospital demanded stringent punishment for the culprits, highlighting the wider impact of the crime. "Our child is in immense pain. Her children are terrified to see her like this. They keep asking about their mother, but we cannot tell them about her ordeal," they said.
The incident has triggered a sharp political response. Congress state President Rao Narendra visited the hospital and accused the state government of failing to maintain law and order. He termed the crime "extremely inhuman and heinous" and demanded a fast-track trial and compensation for the survivor. He was accompanied by Faridabad district Congress head Baljeet Kaushik, Prithla MLA Raghuveer Singh Tevatiya, former NIT MLA Neeraj Sharma, and other party functionaries.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
According to the police, the brutal assault took place inside a Maruti Eeco van. The two accused, identified as drivers from Jhansi and Mathura, pushed the woman out of the moving vehicle near Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar around 3 am. She managed to contact her sister, who then rushed her to the hospital.
While doctors initially referred her to a hospital in Delhi, the family chose to admit her to a private facility in NIT, Faridabad. Two police personnel have been posted on permanent duty at the hospital given the seriousness of the case. Police are awaiting a test identification parade to confirm the identities of the individuals currently in custody.
An FIR has been registered at the Kotwali police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including gang rape, criminal intimidation, and acts done by several persons.
