Chittorgarh Police Arrest Fake Bride Gang in Elaborate Marriage Scam
In a shocking case of deception, the Chittorgarh Kotwali police on Sunday apprehended three individuals, including a woman posing as a bride, for allegedly orchestrating a sham marriage that defrauded a family of Rs 2.4 lakh. The elaborate scam unraveled when the fake bride attempted to flee during a temple visit, leading to a confrontation that exposed the fraudulent scheme.
How the Marriage Scam Unfolded
According to Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi, the case came to light after Harisingh Rajput from Madhya Pradesh filed a complaint. Rajput reported that his brother's biodata and mobile number had been circulated in various WhatsApp groups in search of a suitable match. The family was subsequently approached by a man identified as Ramal Jat, who offered to arrange a bride for a sum of Rs 2.4 lakh.
On April 13, the family traveled to Chittorgarh, where Jat introduced them to a young woman named Shilpi Kumari Jatav, aged 19, along with individuals posing as her relatives. These purported relatives were later identified as Mahendrasingh from Gangrar and Bhairusingh Panwar from Patel Nagar in Bhilwara city, who allegedly acted as the girl's father to lend credibility to the setup.
The Sham Marriage and Subsequent Exposure
Police investigations revealed that marriage formalities were completed at the collectorate premises, after which the family handed over the agreed amount of Rs 2.4 lakh. However, suspicion arose when the bride, Shilpi Kumari Jatav, allegedly tried to escape with another man during a visit to the Jogania Mata temple. She was caught by the family, leading to a heated confrontation that ultimately exposed the alleged fraud.
Following the incident, police swiftly moved to arrest the key suspects. Shilpi Kumari Jatav, a native of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh who was currently residing in Bhilwara, was taken into custody. Alongside her, police arrested her husband, Vishal Suwalka, aged 29, and another alleged member of the gang, Suresh. Authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace other members of the gang, and the investigation is continuing to uncover further details of the scam.
