In a serious incident in Raipur, the son of a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator and former Union minister has been formally charged in a hit-and-run case. The accused allegedly struck a motorcycle, leaving a disc jockey with critical injuries in the early hours of Monday.
Accused Flees Scene After Collision
The individual facing charges is Balwant Singh, also known as Lucky, aged 34. He is the son of Renuka Singh, who serves as the MLA from the Bharatpur–Sonhat (ST) constituency. Notably, Renuka Singh held the position of Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs from 2019 until 2023.
The unfortunate event took place around 1 am on Monday near Salasar Chowk, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Telibandha police station. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Tribhuvan Singh, was on his way home after finishing a professional DJ assignment when his motorcycle was hit by a car.
Sequence of Events and Police Action
According to the preliminary information from officials, Balwant Singh was behind the wheel of the vehicle and had friends with him at the time of the collision. After the car rammed into the motorcycle, Singh reportedly switched to another vehicle and fled from the location, abandoning the severely injured rider on the road.
Law enforcement has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have indicated that more stringent legal provisions might be added to the case once the official medical report of the victim is received and examined.
Victim's Condition and Ongoing Investigation
The injured motorcyclist, Tribhuvan Singh, was rushed to a government hospital for urgent medical care. Officials confirmed that his condition remains critical as he receives treatment.
The investigation is actively progressing. Police teams are working to verify the exact sequence of events that led to the crash and the subsequent escape. A key part of this probe involves scrutinizing CCTV footage obtained from the vicinity of Salasar Chowk to piece together a clear timeline and gather evidence.
