Erode Police Arrest Foreign Nationals for Overstaying Visas

In a significant enforcement action, the Perundurai police in Erode district have arrested two Nigerian men and a Ghanaian woman for residing in India without valid visas. The arrests followed a tip-off received by authorities on Sunday regarding foreign nationals living in the Veppampalayam area.

Police Investigation and Arrest Details

Acting on the information, Perundurai police inspector Deiva Rani led a team to the location and initiated an inquiry. The police discovered the individuals at a house in South SC Colony. The arrested persons have been identified as:

  • U Udobi Michael, 43, from Nigeria
  • A Chibuzo, 44, from Nigeria
  • O Miracle, 17, from Ghana

Initial investigations revealed that Udobi Michael and Chibuzo were involved in the business of exporting clothes from Tirupur to Nigeria. According to Inspector Deiva Rani, they entered India using tourist visas and have been staying illegally after their visas expired.

Background of the Accused

Miracle, who was previously staying in Bengaluru, arrived in Perundurai on Sunday to visit her friends, Michael and Chibuzo. Police confirmed that she also did not possess a valid visa, adding to the charges of illegal stay.

Legal Proceedings and Detention

Following the arrests, the Nigerian nationals were sent to a special camp for foreign nationals in Tiruvannamalai district, while the Ghanaian national was transferred to a similar camp in Trichy. This action underscores the police's commitment to enforcing immigration laws and addressing visa violations in the region.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to monitor and regulate the stay of foreign nationals, ensuring compliance with visa regulations to maintain national security and legal order.
