Elderly Woman's Earlobes Cut for Imitation Earrings

A 70-year-old woman in Chennai suffered injuries to her ears after an unidentified man entered her home in Perumpedu near Ponneri late on Friday night, cut her earlobes, and fled with her earrings while she was asleep. According to police, the stolen earrings were imitation jewellery, not original gold.

Incident Details

The victim, identified as Lakshmi, has been living alone since the death of her husband Gurusamy five years ago. She was sleeping inside her house with the door left open for ventilation when the incident occurred around midnight. The intruder allegedly cut her earlobes to remove the earrings and escaped.

Aftermath and Investigation

After Lakshmi raised an alarm, neighbours and relatives living nearby rushed to her house and found her bleeding from both ears. She was immediately admitted to the Ponneri Government Hospital for treatment. Police have formed special teams to identify and arrest the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
