Kasaragod Police Investigate Murder of Elderly Woman Found Strangled at Home
Police in Kasaragod district have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of a 72-year-old woman. The victim, identified as Pushpalatha V Shetty, was found dead inside her house at Movvar in Kumbadaje.
Autopsy Confirms Strangulation as Cause of Death
The preliminary autopsy report has confirmed that Pushpalatha Shetty was murdered by strangulation. Based on this postmortem finding, the Badiyadka police have officially registered a case for murder. Officers are now actively probing the circumstances surrounding her death.
Pushpalatha lived alone in a small house. Her husband, Venkappa Shetty, had passed away earlier. The couple had no children. Despite owning approximately seven acres of plantation land, she resided by herself in modest conditions.
Discovery of the Body and Missing Valuables
Her death came to light on Thursday when family members grew concerned. Vansha, the daughter of Pushpalatha's elder sister, could not reach her over the phone. After repeated failed attempts, Vansha lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Pushpalatha's body lying on the kitchen floor. Investigators noted that her mangalsutra, weighing over four sovereigns, was missing from the premises. This detail has become a key point in the ongoing investigation.
The Badiyadka police are pursuing all leads to identify the perpetrator. They are examining evidence collected from the house and speaking with neighbors and relatives. The community in Kumbadaje has expressed shock over the violent crime.
