Elderly Couple Found Dead in Bijnor Village, Police Investigate Conflicting Theories
In a tragic incident in Bijnor district, a 70-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife were found dead in Masuri village under the Kotwali Dehat police station area on Tuesday night. Authorities are actively investigating whether the deaths resulted from murder or an accident, with multiple theories emerging from the scene.
Discovery of the Bodies and Initial Response
The couple, identified as Jeeraj Singh and his wife Ramrati, resided in a farmhouse on the outskirts of Masuri village. According to local reports, a power outage occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday. Shortly after, a resident spotted Jeeraj lying unconscious on a nearby road. His sons, Bilendra and Dinesh, immediately rushed him to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during transit.
Meanwhile, Ramrati was discovered deceased inside their home, lying on a cot. The simultaneous deaths of both elderly individuals prompted immediate police involvement, with teams including Circle Officer Anjani Chaturvedi and Station House Officer Vikas Kumar arriving at the location to secure the scene.
Police Investigation and Conflicting Theories
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rural) Prakash Kumar, who inspected the site, revealed that Jeeraj had sustained head injuries, leading to initial suspicions of foul play. "A transformer located near the house is a key part of our inquiry," stated ASP Kumar. "We are examining the possibility that a heavy metal object from the transformer might have fallen and struck Jeeraj, causing his fatal injuries."
Regarding Ramrati's death, ASP Kumar suggested she might have died from shock upon witnessing the incident involving her husband. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact causes of death, with police indicating that further action will depend on these findings.
Family Allegations and Robbery Angle
Family members have lodged a formal complaint alleging foul play, speculating that the couple could have been targeted for robbery. They noted that Jeeraj had recently withdrawn Rs 75,000 from the bank for a relative's wedding, raising concerns about potential theft. However, investigators confirmed that the cash was found intact within the house, complicating the robbery theory.
Villagers described Jeeraj as possibly confronting an intruder and attempting to chase them, based on the nature of his injuries. This has led to ongoing debates between accidental and intentional causes, with police meticulously analyzing all evidence from the transformer and surrounding area.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities await forensic reports to clarify the circumstances behind this heartbreaking incident in rural Uttar Pradesh.
