Bengaluru Police Book Late Actor Dwarakish's Daughter-in-Law in Chit Fund Fraud and Assault Case
In a shocking development from Bengaluru, police have registered multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) against Varsha Rai, the daughter-in-law of the late renowned Kannada actor and producer Dwarakish, and her mother, Ratna Basavaraju. The case involves allegations of cheating investors in a chit fund scheme and a violent assault on a 64-year-old man who demanded his investment back.

According to police officials, the complainants stated that they befriended Varsha Rai and Ratna Basavaraju at the latter's grocery shop located in BHEL Layout, Rajarajeshwarinagar. The mother-daughter duo allegedly promised high returns to lure individuals into investing in their chit fund operation. However, after collecting the funds, they failed to repay the investors as promised.
The situation escalated when one of the victims, 64-year-old Venkatamaramana Reddy, visited the shop to request the return of his money. In a disturbing incident, Varsha Rai is accused of physically assaulting Reddy by beating him with a broom. This violent act prompted Reddy to file a formal complaint with the police, leading to the registration of the first FIR.
Multiple Complaints and Financial Losses
Following Reddy's complaint, several other individuals came forward with similar allegations against Varsha Rai and Ratna Basavaraju. Police have now registered three separate FIRs in connection with this case. The complainants accuse the duo of cheating them out of approximately Rs 15 lakh collectively through the fraudulent chit fund scheme.
Varsha Rai is married to Samarth Dwarakish, the son of the late actor Dwarakish, adding a layer of public interest to the case due to the family's prominence in the Kannada film industry. The investigating officer stated that the victims were promised good returns on their investments but were left empty-handed when the repayments were not made.

Promised good returns, they invested in the chit fund. But the mother-daughter duo failed to repay them. Varsha allegedly beat up one of the victims, Venkatamaramana Reddy, when he went near their shop asking for his money."
