The Delhi Traffic Police has released an extensive traffic advisory in anticipation of the Beating Retreat Ceremony scheduled for January 29, 2026, at Vijay Chowk. Commuters planning to travel through central Delhi are strongly advised to adjust their routes accordingly to avoid significant disruptions.

Traffic Restrictions and Road Closures

According to an official post shared on X by Delhi Traffic Police, traffic restrictions will be enforced from 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM on January 29 to ensure the ceremony proceeds smoothly. Vijay Chowk will be completely closed to general traffic during this period, with several key roads in the vicinity also facing restrictions.

The affected areas include:

  • Rafi Marg from the Sunehri Masjid roundabout to the Krishi Bhawan roundabout
  • Raisina Road from Krishi Bhawan roundabout to Vijay Chowk
  • Roads beyond the roundabouts at Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg, and Sunehri Masjid leading to Vijay Chowk
  • Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to ‘C’ Hexagon

Alternative Routes for Motorists

Motorists traveling from New Delhi towards India Gate are recommended to use alternative routes such as:

  1. Ring Road
  2. Ridge Road
  3. Aurobindo Marg
  4. Madarsa T-Point
  5. Safdarjung Road – Kamal Ataturk Marg and Ram Jessore Road

Bus Route Diversions and Public Transport Impact

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and other city buses will not operate on their regular routes from 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Instead, they will follow specific diversions:

  • Buses heading towards Central Secretariat and Connaught Place from Shanti Path, Vinay Marg, and Sardar Patel Marg will be diverted through Panchsheel Marg, Simon Bolivar Marg, Vande Matram Marg, R.A. Shankar Road, and Sheikh Mujibur Rehman Road.
  • Buses bound for Central Secretariat will terminate at Udyan Marg and return via Kali Bari Marg, Mandir Marg, and Shankar Road.
  • Buses towards Connaught Place will travel through Mandir Marg – Kali Bari Marg – G.P.O. – Baba Khadak Singh Marg and return via Bhagat Singh Marg- Peshwa Road– Mandir Marg — Shankar Road – Vande Matram Marg.

Additional diversions include buses from South Delhi via Tughlak Road being redirected to Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, and Panchsheel Marg after Aurobindo Chowk. Buses on Ring Road heading to Mandi House and Feroz Shah Road will go only as far as Shivaji Stadium before turning back via Kasturba Gandhi Marg or Barakhamba Road.

For those wishing to witness the illumination at Vijay Chowk, parking will be available behind water channels between Rafi Marg and ‘C’ Hexagon starting from 7:00 PM.
