Delhi Police SWAT Commando Succumbs to Injuries After Alleged Assault by Husband
A 24-year-old SWAT commando of the Delhi Police's special cell, Kajal Chaudhary, tragically succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Ghaziabad on Tuesday. This devastating outcome came five days after she was brutally assaulted, allegedly by her husband, Ankur, with a heavy dumbbell in their residence located in southwest Delhi's Mohan Garden area.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Kajal Chaudhary's husband, Ankur, who works as a clerk in the ministry of defence, was arrested shortly after the incident and now faces serious charges of murder. The assault reportedly stemmed from frequent arguments between the couple over financial matters, according to police investigations. However, Kajal's family has alleged that she had been subjected to dowry harassment by her in-laws, despite the couple having a love marriage in 2023.
Family's Account and Police Investigation
The deceased's brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street police station, provided a harrowing account of the events. He stated that the couple, both natives of Ganaur in Haryana, had a quarrel on January 22. "Kajal called me up when the argument escalated," Nikhil said, adding that while he was still on the phone with his sister, Ankur began hitting her on the head with the dumbbell. "Five minutes later, Ankur called me up and bluntly informed me of the assault," Nikhil recounted.
Ankur later took Kajal to a local hospital, but due to the severity of her injuries, her family shifted her to a hospital in Ghaziabad two days later. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Kajal passed away, and her post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday.
Background and Community Mourning
Kajal, who joined the commando unit in 2022, is survived by a one-and-a-half-year-old son. A Delhi Police officer revealed that the couple might have taken some loans and often had disputes related to this and other household expenses. On the day of the assault, Ankur allegedly banged Kajal's head against the frame of a door before attacking her with the dumbbell.
Hours after the assault, Delhi Police arrested Ankur based on a complaint filed by Nikhil. Initially, a case was registered at Mohan Garden police station against him under charges of attempted murder, which will now be converted into murder charges, as confirmed by the officer.
As the police continue their investigation, the community in Ganaur is in deep mourning for a young commando whose life and promising career have been brutally cut short. This tragic incident highlights ongoing issues of domestic violence and dowry-related harassment in society, sparking calls for greater awareness and preventive measures.
