Delhi Businessman's Robbery Call Leads Police to Shocking Culprit: His Own Son

A frantic 112 emergency call reporting a daylight armed robbery of Rs 10 lakh in Delhi prompted police to launch an intensive manhunt on Tuesday, only for the investigation to reveal a stunning family twist: the robber was the businessman's own son.

Daylight Robbery in Laxmi Nagar

On Tuesday around 9 am, two masked men allegedly threatened a businessman from Mukherjee Nagar by waving a pistol and decamped with Rs 10 lakh in cash. The businessman was on his way to deliver the money to his brother-in-law on behalf of his business partner when the masked duo intercepted him in east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area. The assailants were riding a Scooty during the incident.

Initial Police Skepticism and Investigation

When the businessman approached police to register a First Information Report (FIR), investigators were initially sceptical about his story. "The initial theory was that the complainant might have concocted the story to explain away the missing Rs 10 lakh," a senior police officer revealed. To verify the claims, police teams began technical surveillance and launched a comprehensive investigation.

CCTV Footage Analysis and Breakthrough

For several hours, police scanned CCTV footage from 120 cameras at various locations to track the duo and obtain clear views of their faces. The suspects wove through the congestion of Mukherjee Nagar and the chaos of Laxmi Nagar, their faces obscured by masks and helmets. Every time the trail grew warm, the Scooty would dart into a blind spot or vanish into a sea of seemingly identical vehicles, creating an exhausting game of cat-and-mouse on flickering monitors.

The breakthrough came from the 121st camera examined by investigators. Near Anand Vihar, the duo thought they had successfully evaded all surveillance. The robbers pulled over to a quiet spot, and the person riding the Scooty slid his mask off to catch his breath. A nearby camera captured a clear image of his face, providing police with the crucial evidence they needed.

Shocking Identification and Confession

Using ground intelligence and informers, police identified and apprehended the man on Wednesday. When the complainant was asked to identify the person who had robbed him at gunpoint, he realised with shock that the "criminal" was his own 20-year-old son.

During interrogation, the son confessed that he had planned the robbery with a friend because he was upset with his father, who constantly refused to give him money and denied him an allowance. He stated he carried out the heist specifically to "teach his father a lesson."

Recovery of Stolen Money and Charges

Police recovered the entire Rs 10 lakh from a surprising hideout—the boy's grandmother's house. The two youths now face serious charges of armed robbery, with the investigation continuing to examine all aspects of the case.

This incident highlights not only the sophisticated surveillance capabilities of Delhi police but also the complex family dynamics that can sometimes underlie what initially appears to be straightforward criminal activity. The case serves as a reminder that crime investigations often uncover unexpected personal motivations and relationships.
