Delhi Police Crack Down on 'Takkar Gang' Using Bump-and-Rob Scheme
In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have dismantled a criminal gang that employed a deceptive bump-and-rob technique to target unsuspecting pedestrians on busy streets. The so-called 'Takkar Gang' allegedly orchestrated collisions to create distractions and steal valuables, leading to the arrest of two key members.
Modus Operandi: A Calculated Distraction
The gang's method was meticulously planned. One member would deliberately bump into a pedestrian, sparking an argument and physical confrontation. During this scuffle, an associate, often waiting on a motorcycle, would assist in the theft by slipping cash or valuables from the victim's pockets before making a swift escape. This tactic exploited crowded urban environments where such incidents might appear accidental.
Case Details: The Hardoi Resident's Ordeal
The arrests followed a complaint filed by Om Parkash, a resident of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh who works at a salon in Paschim Vihar. On February 26, Parkash reported that while walking on a footpath near a bank around 2 PM, a man collided with him, initiated an argument, and pushed him. Amid the altercation, the man's accomplice, positioned on a motorcycle, helped him flee. Parkash later discovered that Rs 10,000 had been stolen from his pocket.
A case was registered at the Paschim Vihar East police station, prompting a thorough investigation. Police teams meticulously scanned CCTV footage from routes connected to the crime scene, identifying two suspects on a red motorcycle. The vehicle's number plate was clearly visible, leading investigators to trace it to Neeraj, a 26-year-old individual.
Arrests and Criminal Backgrounds
On March 6, a raid was conducted in Budh Vihar, resulting in the apprehension of both accused: Neeraj and Rajesh Pandey, aged 30. With these arrests, police have successfully resolved five related cases. Neeraj has a prior criminal record, being involved in seven cases and listed as a bad character at the Mangolpuri police station. Rajesh Pandey has six cases against him and was previously convicted under the Gambling Act.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikram Singh emphasized the gang's sophisticated approach, noting that such incidents highlight the need for public vigilance in crowded areas. The police have urged citizens to report similar occurrences promptly to prevent further crimes.
